Zeus known as king of gods in greek’s myths. In honor of the god Zeus, the ancient Greeks built a temple in Athens. The Temple of Olympian Zeus is a temple built by Deukalionas, who was the ancestor of the Greeks. Construction was built in the 6th Century B.C ( Before Christ). During the Roman period temple this temple was largest temple in Greece and housed one of the largest cult statues in the ancient world.
The Temple of Olympian Zeus has a total of 104 sturdy pillars with a height of 17 meters. The temple is located approximately 500 m (1640 feet) south-east of the Acropolis, and about 700 m (2,300 feet) south of the center of Athens, Syntagma Square. Its foundations were laid on the site of an ancient outdoor sanctuary dedicated to Zeus. An earlier temple had stood there, constructed by the tyrant Peisistratus around 550 BC.
The glory of the temple was short-lived, because it fell into disuse after being looted during the barbarian invasion in 267 AD, only about a century after it was finished. It might never be repaired and reduced to rubble afterwards.
